In carrying out a consulting
assignment a choice has to be made by the client between process
consulting approach and a purely technical strategic planning
method (content consulting). In the latter approach consultants
would entirely undertake the assignment by conducting research,
analysing the problem at hand and recommending solutions to
the problems with minimum participation of the client’s
management and staff. These recommendations would then be
tabled to the client for implementation. In process consulting
the role of consultants would be to co-ordinate and facilitate
the diagnostic and intervention processes to be undertaken
by the client. The consultants would however, assist in the
collection of all relevant information and assist in all analyses,
interpretation and formulation of solutions to the problems
at hand. In many cases analyses and formulations by consultants
would be presented to the client as proposals for its consideration,
debate and agreement before they are incorporated into the
recommended course of action. In other words process consulting
becomes a joint effort of consultant and the client.
TPSC’S offers both
process and contents consulting options.
